Whale & Dolphin Watching

Waters of Trincomalee are home to many whales and dolphins, including Blue Whales, Sperm Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Spinner Dolphins, Risso's Dolphins. Whale & Dolphin watching is one of the main things you should do while you are in Trincomalee, there are many tour providers offering private guided tours. Normally the tours take about 3 to 5 hours and offer 90% chance of spotting these amazing marine mammals. Best time to visit is during May to October, and July is known as extremely good.

Waters around Sri Lanka are getting known for both Whale watching and Dolphin Watching, with resident and migratory colonies of these giant fish. Once you onboard to a tour, they ride towards the sea and stop at spots where you can safely watch these giants. Usually your boat will be guided by a few dolphins.

The tours start about 6:00 AM in the morning, and you will have to be prepared with sea sick pills beforehand. Many boats do provide too. Make sure to check the weather forecast before booking your tours.
