Ramayanaya, a major Sanskrit Epic suggests that this 400 feet tall sheer steep cliff was created when God Shiva made King Ravana to drop his sword when Ravana lifted the rock temple. However it is a magnificent place to witness panoramic views over the Indian Ocean.

It was named as lover’s leap after Francina van Reed committed suicide by jumping off the cliff. Francina van Reed, daughter to a civil servant from Holland was engaged to a young Dutch officer. Once this assignment was complete he broke up with Francina and sailed away to return home. Being heartbroken by this Francina decided to throw herself over the cliff and suicide herself in the name of love. There is a pillar set up at the promontory stating her story and the date of tragedy as 24th April 1687.

However it is an amazing spot to see the surroundings and panoramic Indian ocean. You can also take a boat ride to go to the edge of the cliff from the sea, which will be amazing for photos.
