A proud, calm, well maintained resting ground for the souls of soldiers of the British Empire who sacrificed their lives during World War II. Being managed by the Defence Ministry this war cemetery is maintained to a high standard and contains a lot of gravestones of British officials. The cemetery has separate sections for Christians, Buddhists, Tamils and Muslims. It is one of those amazing places to visit if you fancy to know the history and dive into the times of World War II and what mankind had to go through. The groundemen are friendly and always prepared to give you a background of the cemetery.
The cemetery is located on the Trincomalee to Nilaveli (A6) road, and can be easily accessed from any of the major hotels of Trincomalee. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour to walk around the cemetery. You’d realise how young these soldiers had to die, especially the teenagers. There are gravestones of soldiers, pilots, aircraftmen and navy officers.
