Talalla is one of the most beautiful but hidden beaches in Sri Lanka, making it a perfect place for beginner and intermediate surfers. The cliff on the edge of the cove has amazing hotels with panoramic views of the Indian ocean and the beach. It's a perfect place to relax, enjoy the local culture, see local fishermen pulling their fishing nets and surfing.
Getting to Talalla is quite easy, you just have to drive more to the south from Matara about 12 kilometers. It is not a crowded beach which makes it ideal to relax and surf as much as you want. The isolated surf point is located at the main cove beach. Waters are shallow with the sandy bottom and have a good swell with moderate waves. If you are an advanced surfer the two points of the cove have some strong waves.
Hiriketiya bay located more towards the south about a 20 minutes drive from Talalla is one of the most photographed places in the southern coastline of Sri Lanka. It offers views of amazing sunsets.
There are also a lot of yoga camps and wellness spas providing ayurvedic massages in the area. Prices at Talalla could be a bit on the high side compared to Unawatuna or Hikkaduwa, however it is completely a different experience.
Best time to visit is between December to March, April and May are recorded as the hottest of all months.
