A beautiful range of mountains with seven peaks, and popular among hiking enthusiasts. It requires five to six hours of climbing up and about four hours climbing down. There are no hiking trails and you are on your own to find the way in and way out. Hikers describe it as a moderately difficult hike. The views from the top of the mountains are exquisite, and it won't disappoint you in any way. Bring in your hiking gear, food and a lot of water.
Known as the Mountain of Love “Adara Kanda” among students of the University of Peradeniya, many boast about the beauty of the Hanthana Mountain Range. The highest peak is known as Ura Kanda, from the top it offers views over the Kandy City, Knuckles Mountain Range, and hills of Sabaragamuwa province.
Hanthana is a protected reserve, where many birds, and mammals live. You’d notice hedgehogs, monkeys and wild boars, however there are leopard and foxes in the area too.
The ideal time to start climbing up would be in the mornings around 6 AM so you get enough time to spend at the peaks and start climbing down. It is a easy hiking place to spend a day, there are no tickets and don't forget leech protection.
