Boat safari tours on the waters of the Walawe river is truly an amazing experience. You’d encounter many birds including herons, kingfishers, egrets, eagles, parrots, bee eaters, tons of bats hanging on the branches and weaver bird nests. The views of the mangroves are interesting to see. A major highlight is the scenic views of the place where the river meets the ocean. The safari ride takes about one and half hours, and it is best to do it in the evenings.

The walawe boat safari tours run through an area with a rich biodiversity. The area is home to about 52 species of fish, 72 species of birds, 28 species of mammals and 38 varieties of plants and trees.

Apart from the birds, you’d meet a lot of monkeys while you are on the safari. It is truly a unique experience which you must do.

The safaris operate from 6:00 AM to 6:00PM. Early morning or evenings are the best time to go on the safaris, however if you go in the evenings you’d see birds flocking for the night.
