There are two entrances to the Galle Fort , one is the Main Gate from the Galle National stadium side on to your right or the other is the Old Gate via the sea side to your left.
The Main Gate was built originally by the Portuguese , was developed again in 1667 by the Dutch. And then the Dutch separated the wall into three sections Star, Moon and Sun Bastions.
The Old Gate is beautifully carved the letters VOC and flanked by two lions and topped by a cockerel with the date 1669.VOC stands for Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie in Dutch and which means Dutch East India Company , and it was popular mega trade mark by the dutch in early 17th century.
