A curve shaped modern building, inspired from the 12th-century Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) in Polonnaruwa is an advanced, fully equipped theatre in Colombo, with 1, 288 seating with a 690 square meter movable stage with the ability to raise and lower the orchestra pit.
The curve (lotus petal) shaped architecture and the reflective lighting will fill you with a great impression when you walk into the theatre. It is the most modern theatre in the island, and make sure you check the program schedules online before you go there in order to prevent the queues as it could be a lot crowded.
The theatre was opened to the public in December 2011. The idea for the lotus point was inspired by the eight petal Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) in Polonnaruwa, which was built in the time of King Parakramabahu the Great.
