Galle Face Green gets busy on any regular day with lots of foreigners and local visitors. Kids playing around, various types of food sellers and ice cream shops, people selling kites are not to be missed. It's a good spot to capture the sunset from Colombo. Best to visit in the evenings.
Galle Face Green is a long open park in the heart of Colombo. The Galle Face green was cleared by the Dutch to install their cannons as a strategic military line against the Portugese. Afterwards in 1856 the Governor of British Ceylon, Sir Henry George Ward authorised the construction of the seaside promenade which stretches 1.6 Kms.
Galle Face Green is open all 24x7, and is safe to hang around. Most of the evenings get crowded with kite flyers, families, couples, and street food vendors selling pickles, wade, chutneys etc.
Being closer to many of the top hotels in Colombo it is easily accessible. The Dutch Hospital is at walking distance, and the Galle Face Hotel’s Inn on the green is a good pub close by with live music.
