Diyatha Uyana is a haven of greenery amongst the concrete streets in Colombo with the cooling breeze blowing from the Diyawanna Lake making it the perfect place for jogging and evening strolls with the family. It also has an array of various types of stalls where local merchants sell exotic plants, food, clothing and souvenirs.
Diyatha Uyana, ‘The Park by the Lake’ sits along the banks of the Diyawanna Lake in Colombo. It is about 88 hectares and was originally a marshy land that was developed to increase water retention to prevent unnecessary flooding.
It consists of a walking path that is about 800m long, a commercial area consisting of 164 stalls promoting local merchants where you can purchase exotic flowers, plants and gardening items, and a restaurant area consisting of 12 different restaurants giving you a wide variety of food to choose from. In addition to that, it also has a kids play area and an aquarium too.
The park is equipped with spacious car parks and parking is free. The premises of the park are clean, maintained well and has stone benches on the side of the walking path where you can sit and read a book, have a chat with your family or admire the scenery when the sunlight hits the shimmery water waves of the lake during sunset.
The park is right next to the star-rated hotel, Waters Edge, which has its own floating restaurant that can accommodate up to 40 people.
