The Ella rock is about eight kilometers away from the Ella town. The routes are quite easy to follow. From the Ella town walk up to the railway station, and walk towards the Kithal Ella station, for direction check the nameboards of the nearest stations at Ella station. Keep walking along the railway lines till you reach the Kital Ella station. When you pass the Kital Ella station and walk about for 7 - 12 minutes you’d come to a bend towards the left. It is the second left turn from the Kital Ella station. Keep going straight till you see a rock with an arrow sign marked. Take that route and keep going till you read a small river with a small bridge. Once you cross the bridge take a turn towards your left and walk straight, from here you’d see there are blue arrows on rocks marking the direction. Pass through the long grassy land till you reach a forest with lots of tall Gum trees. From there keep going forwards towards the top of the hill and you’d reach the Ella rock.
To summarize
You can walk along the main road and take the Kital Ella road to reach the Kital Ella railway station, but walking on the railway tracks is more fun.
Though many say the route is hard and people get lost we believe that it is super easy to follow and can be done alone. You can spend as much as time you want at the top.
When going be sure to have google maps in place for directions, sun cream, leech protection, trekking shoes and take some water proof clothes. It could rain at any minute there. Make sure to leave early in the morning for better views. Skies of Ella are generally clear around mornings.
Be careful when walking along the railway lines, it is not busy but if you hear a train moving in walk out and give space to the train.
