If you’re planning to visit Sri Lanka to explore and enjoy its scenic beauty, first, you need to make sure your passport is valid for more than 6 months from the day of your arrival in Sri Lanka. Then you need to apply for a visa (Electronic Travel Authorisation) through www.eta.gov.lk in advance. Other than the Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore, travelers from all other countries will require ETA. Transit visas upto 48 hours will be free of charge. Visit visa can be a single or double entry with a cost between 25 USD to 50 USD depending on your nationality.
To apply for a visa you require only a few documents such as:-
A Passport valid for not less than 6 months, Confirmed Return Air Ticket, and sufficient funds for your stay.
Once you obtain your visa (ETA) you must enter Sri Lanka within three (03) months from the date it was issued to you.
Your ETA is valid for 30 days from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka and it can be extended for up to six (06) months. If you feel like you need to stay in Sri Lanka for more than the given 30 days you can get it extended by visiting the Department of Immigration and Emigration with a valid reason.
If your plan is to visit Sri Lanka for a business meeting the visa procedure will be the same but the fee will be different than the normal tourist visa.
