Minneriya is a must-visit national park in Sri Lanka to see an enormous number of wild elephants, and make the best out of your wildlife safari. The number of elephants that inhabit the park ranges from 150 to 200 elephants, with some reports stating that the figure is as high as 700.

You can witness large water birds, such as the Painted Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Spot-Billed Pelican, and other migrant bird species. Flocks of 2000 little cormorants gather at this renowned national park, making it a place of marvel for enthusiastic birders. Minneriya National Park is also a habitat for endemic monkeys, such as the purple-faced langur and toque macaque, as well as mammals, such as sambar deer, axis deer, leopards and sloths, and other endangered species.

July to October are the best times to visit the park, with August and September being reported as the peak times to see the large number of elephant gatherings.
