Lunugamvehera National Park is rich in biodiversity, and is home to many elephants, wild buffalos and aquatic birds. The park serves as an elephant corridor between Yala National Park on the east and Udawalawe National Park on the west, facilitating animals to travel between the two parks, and thus making it a preferred destination for elephant sightings.

You can spot water birds of nearly 200 species, both endemic and migratory, as well as wild buffalos, wild boar, sambar deer, axis deer, fishing cats, Asian palm civet, grey mongoose, grizzled giant squirrels, sloths and mouse deer.

The national park is situated 261 km southwest of Colombo, and can be visited throughout the year.
