Baobab Tree

Lined with fine ancient baobab trees, Mannar Island is home to a 700 year-old baobab tree, with a solid bark resembling an elephant’s skin. The Ali Gaha (Elephant Tree), or so called by the locals, is 10.5 meters in height with a circumference of 21 meters. Arabian Merchants allegedly planted these native African trees as a food source for their camels, and today, it has become a phenomenon site for tourists to visit due to its rarity and antiquity.
