The Dambakola Patuna Sangamitta Temple is a prominent Buddhist monastery, with a fascinating historical significance. The temple was established in Dambakolapatuna, where Arhat Sanghamitta first landed in Ceylon with a sapling of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi. To commemorate the arrival, King Devanampiyatissa built a magnificent temple by the shore. Most of the temple, however, was in ruins, and the existing stupas and sculptures you can see today were recently constructed to memorialize its former glory. With its spiritual significance and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, a visit to the temple will leave you spellbound.
