The provincial historical museum, established and owned by the Department of Archaeology of Sri Lanka, exhibits numerous artifacts rich in archaeological heritage and historical value. The museum consists of 5th-8th century antiques, statues of Lord Buddha, statues of Hindu Goddesses, and a few Christian objects, such as the baptismal font. The museum is open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm on all days of the week, except Tuesdays and on public holidays. Entrance is free of charge.
