A large ancient stupa, believed to be built by Queen Subadra, a consort of King Parakramabahu I and originally named as “Rupavathi Stupa” to honor Queen Rupavathi, another consort of the King. Kiri Vehera is the second largest stupa in Polonnaruwa with a height of 24.5 meters. It got its present name “Kiri Vehera”, Milky White Stupa from the lime plaster of its dome.
