Farah III was a Jordan cargo ship built in 1891. On 26th December 2006, Farah III was sailing en route from India to South Africa, when it faced engine malfunctions. The ship was forced to anchor near Mullaitivu, in Northern Sri Lanka. The LTTE, a rebellious group, boarded the ship and robbed its cargo of 14,000 tons of rice, and even removed the ship's generators, navigational equipment, communication equipment and its superstructure for fabrication activities of their organization. However, the crew members of the ship were safely handed over to the Red Cross.
Today, the Farah III shipwreck is one of the largest attractions in Mullaitivu, where you can still see how the ship's hull has been cut by the LTTE for their organizational purposes.
